Cabin Adventures

This past weekend was my last official weekend of "holidays" before I head to work this coming Friday. It was a fairly low key weekend, which was very much appreciated as my head has not been cooperating with me in terms of headaches. Thankfully my neurologist appointment is in just over a month!

I headed out to the cabin on Thursday morning with my parents after restocking my bag with some clean clothes from the previous 3 days at Kristy's cabin. The weather was quite humid and sticky, which did not go over well with my head, so I stayed inside the cabin most of Thursday, Friday and Saturday reading and puzzling.

Late Saturday night Derek and Courtney joined us and on Sunday we had the most perfect day in many many years. Our cabin is on Lake Manitoba (quite a large lake), so we rarely get calm water, so we took full advantage of the strange calmness and enjoyed the entire day out on the water.

I managed to get out water skiing for the first time this year - so far we have only been able to tube because of the usual waves the lake has. My legs have been feeling quite stiff and sore both yesterday and today. I managed to make it up on my second try and even attempted dropping a ski, which resulted in a big face plant into the water shortly after. Thankfully that was NOT caught on camera!

Later that evening, Derek, Courtney and myself took the canoe out and did some exploring. As kids we used to walk along the rocky shore for what seemed like eternity to eventually reach "The Creek".
As kids we always thought of this little creek as an eerie place, but as we grew up, we seemed to forget about it. For old times sake, we ventured down the creek, which is more like a swampy little inlet in the lake - quite gross and smelly actually. Derek and I reminisced about the many adventures we took down here and Courtney did her very best to be brave with all of the spiders and critters.
Sometimes it can be fun to pretend you are 8 years old again and on some foreign adventure through a swamp. There is something very freeing about being a child again.
