What a long week

What a long week it has been and it is only Wednesday. I have been battling a migraine for 7 days now and I am hitting the end of my rope. I am in constant pain all of the time and it makes being at school very tough. It is not uncommon that I get a migraine, however this constant throbbing is not normal. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday morning to get this checked out. I am praying that it is nothing serious because exams are right around the corner.

I'll keep you posted!

Enough with the Rain

"Rain, Rain, Go Away! Come again another day!"

I cannot count how many times I have caught myself singing this song this week. I am sooooo tired of the rain. It is a good thing I don't live in BC cuz I just don't think I could do it. I tend to get terrible migraines with the rain due to all of the barometric pressure and the cloudiness. It sucks. I can't wait to see the sun again.

It has been a very low key sort of week. I have not ventured far from the house due to the miserable weather. On rainy days there is nothing I would like more to do than curl up under a blanket on my bed and watch a movie in pajamas all day long. Unfortunately this is not a possibility due to the mound of homework that awaits me.

This morning I enjoyed a wonderful coffee breakfast at Starbucks with Aimee. It was great to get out of the house, even if it was pouring rain out. Somehow sitting in a coffee shop drinking a delicious warm drink and talking with a friend is a perfect thing to do when the weather outside is dreadful.

Currently I am in my last few days of "unstressfulness" (I'm not sure if that's even a word, but I think you understand the gist of what I am saying) before my final exams start. It's crazy to think that I have almost finished my first year of school. Where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday I was beginning this crazy, intense journey and yet at the same time, it seems as if I have been friends with these people forever. Next Saturday will be the beginning of my 3 week hibernation from society. I apologize to everyone in advance if I do not return phone calls or emails. Please do not take it personally. Think of it as a blessing as I will probably be very stressed and tense :) I have a couple of fun things planned in the upcoming week to celebrate the end of school, such as pedicures, so I am looking forward to that.

Well I should get back to the books. I hope everyone is finding some enjoyable way to spend this dreary and rainy day.
Cheers!

May Long

This past weekend was not the long weekend I was hoping for. Friday after I was done clinic (which went very well by the way), my family picked me up from school and we headed out to the cabin. I was very much looking forward to a whole weekend spent doing nothing except to enjoy my weekend at the lake. Apparently mother nature had different plans. I was wanting to be able to sit on the deck in the sun and read a good book, but instead I sat inside, watched a ton of great movies, along with some not-so-great movies and did 2 puzzles. Now don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed myself and my time out at the cabin, but 10 degree weather was not what I was hoping for.

Saturday I was able to do some baking with my mom. We made a rather large apple pie and peanut butter cookies, all of which were completely gone by the time Monday came around. I ate WAY too much. It seems as though when I am with my family, all I do is eat. I hate it when that happens.

When we got into the city on Monday, we arrived to a beautiful blue sky and 22 degree weather (10 degrees warmer than what we experienced just an hour previous to our arrival). Thankfully, I got a phone call from Kristy and we decided to go for a bike ride and ice cream (I know, shocking). We enjoyed sitting in Assiniboine Park along the grass by the river, enjoying our very messy ice cream and the warm rays of the sun. It was the perfect way to end a great weekend.

Celebrate

Today I did the practical aspect of my Anatomy exam and I got a 100% so wahoo!!! I was pretty pumped about that. Next Wednesday I will get the written part back, which won't be quite as good as the practical.

This weekend I am heading out to the cabin with my family for the first time of the year. I am quite excited to get out of the city and to spend some time relaxing. I hear the weather isn't supposed to be fabulous, but just being at the cabin will be wonderful in itself. I plan on bringing lots of movies and some homework and maybe even a book to read for fun (something I have not yet done since I started school in September). Dominika is coming out with my brother, so I can be pretty sure that time will be spent baking and decorating cakes. It should be good.

Tonight is the season finale of America's Next Top Model, but I am holding out in watching it until tomorrow when a couple friends come so we can watch it together. Go Natasha!

I got word at school today that it looks like I will be doing massages on June 9th at the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, which I thought was completely awesome. What a cool event to get to be a part of. So if anyone is running or walking during the weekend, come by the massage tents to get a massage from me :) More details to follow.

That's it for what's new and exciting these days. I'm off to do some studying!

Happy Mother's Day and Ice Cream

It was another very busy weekend. I am not quite sure where the weekend went. Today my family spent the day celebrating my mom and my grandma's. It was a busy day. We got together with both my mom and my dad's sides of the family for bbq's. The food was all a little too yummy because I ate more than my fair share of food and for the most part, conversations were good.
Mom and Grandma

For Mother's Day I was in charge of bringing the dessert for one of the family gatherings, so I decided to bake a cake. It is called the topsy turvy cake and I thought it turned out rather well and it tasted good, so that was a bonus.

Right after our lunch, my brother and my cousin decided that they were going to install a cd player in my cousin's car. It was quite entertaining to watch them figure out how to do this because neither one of them has ever installed a cd player before. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat on the grass just watching them. Good times.

I love summer. I really do, especially when it involves going for walks and eating ice cream. To me, that is what summer is all about.
Last night after our church service, some girlfriends and I headed over to BDI for some yummy small twist cones, dipped in chocolate and nuts for a treat. The half hour wait was well worth the deliciousness of the ice cream. The evening was beautiful and I very much enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with friends and just to spend time talking. I am so blessed to have a great group of girlfriends.

Completely Wiped

It has been a VERY long week. I wrote a huge exam yesterday, so for the past week I have been going insane trying to study. Thankfully it rained last weekend and I was not tempted with beautiful weather. Ever since I walked out of the exam yesterday, I have had zero energy and ability to concentrate on anything. I can't remember the last time I felt this fried. When I came home yesterday I put on the last 2 episodes of Gilmore Girls that I had missed because of studying and got myself a nice big slurpee and snuggled up on the couch and vegged. I couldn't even bring myself to go to Cole's soccer game. Crazy! Today I feel very similar but with a little more energy and I'm not quite so on edge.
Thanks to all of those people who were praying for me yesterday. Your prayers were very much appreciated.

Yummy Cupcakes and Studying

Yesterday afternoon I headed over to my parents to do some studying for my big anatomy exam which is on Wednesday. My brother's girlfriend Dominika was over also and was in the midst of baking cupcakes to decorate them, so how could I not join in? The 2 of us spent a good couple hours experimenting with cupcakes and decorating while in between batches I studied diagrams of muscles. It was a ton of fun. I am so fortunate that I do not enjoy eating sweets for the most part because if I did, my mom's kitchen would have been a huge problem yesterday. There were cupcakes everywhere and lots and lots of icing!
Dominika and I are wanting to take a cake decorating course so badly, but everywhere is full, so we are experimenting on our own. We figured out some designs, but it would be so much better if we actually knew what we are doing.

Here are some of the results of our afternoon of decorating

My Most Wonderful Day

Today was the most wonderful day. My good friend Toni moved to Vancouver in the fall to go to school and I haven't seen her since August. Well, this week she has returned home (only for a short visit unfortunately) and today I got to spend the afternoon with her.
It was a marvelous time spent together. I have missed her a lot. She always makes me laugh so hard and we often think the same way and have a very similar sense of humour. She is a wonderful person and I love her dearly.

We started our afternoon off by me giving her a massage. When I was done, we headed out for a walk down Corydon. We stopped off in some shops that I don't get to go into very often because I rarely have the time to browse. Perhaps one day I will actually be able to afford the clothes in those stores. I have missed shopping with Toni. We happen to shop very well together. One of the stores we had to go into was Sugar Mountain to get ourselves a small treat. We then took our candy and headed to the park to sit on a bench in the sun and catch up. Email just doesn't cut it sometimes. It's so much better to actually be talking to each other in person.

It was the most wonderful day!

Soccer

This year Cole is playing soccer and tonight was the first game I got to go and watch. It was only the 2nd game of the season, but it was the CUTEST thing ever. I didn't realize how different the rules were for kids ages 5 and under. First of all, there are only 3 kids on the field at a time. Secondly, both teams split themselves in half so most of the kids end up playing most of the game. And thirdly, snack lasted longer than the entire 2 halves.

I think the best quote I heard all night was this:

Kid - "Coach, someone is trying to steal our ball."

Coach - "No Madison, that is just the other team."

I laughed so hard (of course not in front of the poor kid). I was glad I could go and watch tonight's game because Cole scored his first goal. He was so proud of himself and I was pretty proud also. He couldn't wipe the grin off of his face. I was impressed at how focused he was considering most of the kids pick dandelions and swing on the goal posts.

This was Cole's very proud face after scoring the goal
